The impact of Western Music on English culture

Music has been the soul touching element for the human heart for centuries. But while tracing the history of music we need to go back to as early as Stone Age. Music was prevalent in various ancient countries of China, India and Mesopotamia. It was likely that some Babylon musical theory influenced the Greek and from them it was transformed to the Europeans. The new repertory primarily composed the notation rather than improvising and including the first body of music for two different independent voices. Such elaborate voices created artistry and stunning size and beautiful decoration of itself. By 1000, virtually all melodies were composed in single line verse. By 1300, it created a polyphony started to take shape. The polyphony was a major turning point of western music. Composers introduced two forms of polyphony notations that became fundamental for western music in the later part. Vertical placements of notations to multiple parts became a tradition, and it was prevalent in most of the contemporary western music also.

The developments continued during the renaissance period. Josqin de Prez, one of the leading composers of Renaissance Europe, was one of the great composers of that time. But despite such great composition polyphony outlived the people of that generation. But the variation in styles came in use with the upcoming generation of musicians started to create new notes. Bach, Mozart, Beethoven gave people new kinds of sound to play with. The medieval period gave the solid base to the new era western music. It created a new age for the western music for the future generations to come.

European people listen to both opera and latest form of jazz music thus embracing both form of music and in due course accepting both forms of culture at that same time. Bimusicalism is the phenomenon where people are well versed with cultural sensitivity to both genres of music. The music is also promoting the culture of Europe.
